Sizes 32-40 A 42-48. WARSAW, Poland (AP) -Two brothers were sentenced to death Monday for their roles in a series of sex killings and attempted killings involving 19 women. Zdzislaw Marchwicki, described by a Polish magazine as the vampire of Silesia," was convicted by the district court in Katowice, southwestern Poland, of killing 14 women and the attempted murder of five others "to satisfy his perverted sex instinct, the official Polish news agency PAP reported. SENTENCED TO DIE His brother Jan, a former university administration employe, received the death penalty for masterminding some of the murders. Zdzislaw Marchwicki, a 47-year-old transport worker in the Silesian coal mine of Siemi-anowice, was arrested in January 1972.

According to the 300-page indictment he started his murders of women ranging in age from 16 to 57 in November 1964. Five of the victims survived after hospital treatment. From the Polish press, always reticent in unsavory crime details, it could be learned only that Zdzislaw picked his victims in various towns of the Katowice industrial province. He attacked lonely women on side streets and less frequented paths in the darkness, hit them over the head with a metal rod, and ravaged their bodies. From the position of the ies and the arrangement of their clothes it can be gathered that the killings had a sexual background, the Polish press reported.

A knife and a bloodstained leather-covered steel whip figured among the evidence produced in court. Other defendants in the trial were another brother, Henyrk; their sister Halina; her son Szdzislaw, and Jan March wickis friend, Jozef Klimczak, described by the press as a dubious character involved in homosexual orgies organized by Jan Marchwicki. They were found guilty of varying degrees of complicity in the crimes. WASHINGTON (AP)-Leaders of the national Quaker organization said Monday they will defy the Treasury Department and ship $325,000 in aid, including fishing nets and hospital repair tools, to North and South Vietnam.

At issue is whether the materials are economic or humanitarian assistance. On July 18, the Treasury Department notified the American Friends Service Committee, or Quakers, that applications would be approved for licenses to ship $575,000 worth of medical and school supplies and food. APPROVAL DENIED But approval was denied for the shipment of $325,000 of farm tillers, fish nets, workshops where handicapped war veterans would work in North Vietnam, and workshop in South Vietnam for the repair of hospital equipment and instruments. Chairman Wallace T. Collett of the Fridnds board of directors said he and other officials were prepared to go to Jail or face fines, penalties provided for persons who move goods to certain foreign countries in violation of Treasury Department regulations.

At a news conference, Collett said, Public statements (by Ford administration officials) give the impression that the United States government is fully open to humanitarian aid to North and South Vietnam. However, the current policy is clearly the reverse, and is fact, more closed to this aid than during the war. Collett said in 1973 while the fighting in Vietnam continued a pace the Quakers were permitted by U.S. officials to send $100,000 worth of farm equipment and fishing nets to the Viet Cong political organization in South Vietnam. Now, Collett said, with all of Vietnam in Communist hands, the U.S.

government is refusing to permit delivery of the same kinds of materials.
