The Hoard ol Charities, lie said, have rocouinionded the building of a new prison, but if built uller their plans It ill cost lor they are uu extravagant sol of fellows, and he did not think it fair to impose the burden on Lancaster countys taxpayers, 'file couit also condemned the action of the bridge viewers In recommending tho building ol bridges which are not necessary. Early in March 188:2, James of Itariville, Ooleraln township, killed his wile with a shotgun and lied, lie was followed to the Uoiiowingo bridge, over the Susquehanna river, which he crossed, escaping to Maryland. A lew days later James Campbell was admitted to the Baltimore City Hospital with a bad out iu his leg, which liesaid he had received while cutting limber. He was weak from the loss ol blood and died a month later from that cause.

After his death papers among his possessions allowed that he was James Shaw, the fugitive wife murderer, and the body was identified by his sou, James K. Shaw, of Philadelphia, who administered on the murdered womans estate. Now a verdict of not guilty is taken to take the case oil the docket Hnd give the magistrate his costs. H. Clay dibble, of Manheim borough, was appointed foreman of the graud inquest.

Howard Yellets, colored, of Florin, was acquitted of the charge of carrying concealed deadly weapons, the prosecutor, Win. Caldwell, to pay the costs. A verdict of not guilty was rendered in the perjury case against George D. Karnes. Karnes, in bis atlidavit before the clerk of the orphans court, swore that his intended bride was of the required age.

The parents of the girl were opposed to the marriage aud Karnes and she eloped to this city. However, after suit was entered against Karnes, he and John H. Brady, the father of the girl, became reconciled, and the court consented to taking a yerdict as above. William Singer, Ann Singer, and Abm. Singer, who reside uear West Willow, were convicted of assaulting Wm.

Beich-ler. Iu November the latter passed by Singers house on the public road, was bitten by Singers dog and while delending himself, was assaulted by the Singer lamily. Fred. Pease pleaded guilty to the larceny of tools from S. B.

Jefferies aud was sentenced to an imprisonment of six months. Edward Sharp pleaded guilty to the larceny of some wearing apparel from Sewell Long, aud was sentenced to an imprisonment of five months. A verdict of not guilty was entered iu tbe case of commonwealth vs. Adam Weitzel, of the Welsh mountain, Indicted for tue larceny of a set of harness. Isaao Adams, of Millport, was found guilty ol stealing a gold watch from Elam Eitnier, of Kotbsville, and sentenced to five days imprisonment.

Charlotte Trusty, an aged colored woman of Columbia, was iudietid for having assaulted Stephen Burrols. Not guilty. James Yelletts was acquitted of the charge of having stolen four sample bunches of tobacco last December from John S. Stoner, of West Hempheld township. illiam Turner, colored, of Columbia, was sentenced to seven mouths iu jail for Btealmg a keg of beer from Mrs.

Kause. Wm. Jackson, of Marietta, was convicted of the larceny of a stove from Albert Hart-mau, and will languish in prison for seven months. Anna Kunzelinan, ol Marietta, was sentenced to an imprisonment of eight months for keeping a bawdy house. Jacob W.

Diehm was charged with false pretense iu having secured $350 from Samuel Eshiemau of Penn township by fraudulent representations. On November 18, 1889, Diehm represented to Eshleman that he had $1,000 in the Litiz National Bank, and that he wanted topurchase colts, which would require $350 more; and that when sold he would return him the $350 or give him colts. On these representations Eshleman endorsed Diehms note for $350 on the Peoples National Bank. Diehm obtained the money but never paid Eshle-back. Eshleman subsequently learned that Diehm had no money in the bank and that he never purchased any colts.

The defendant denied any intention of obtaining the money by false pretenses. Urias Holsinger, a colored citizen of Columbia, was charged with highway robbery on the oath of Zephia Bass, who belongs to the Russian colony in this city. She was peddling near Elizabethtown early in December, when she was met on the road by a colored man, who stopped her to look at her goods. He then seized her basket, which contained goods and also her purse, containing $30 in cash, and ran away. She was not able to identify Urias aud he was liberated.

Mellicena Dennis a colored girl from the Welsh Mountains, was tried on two charges of larceny and one of felonious entry. She was acquitted. James Keilley pleaded guilty of being a tramp andof assaulting little Minnie Lukon of this city, aud was sentenced to four months in iail and to pay a fine of $5. John Martin pleaded guilty of being a tramp, and was committed for 25 days and warned that if he came back he would be sent up for three years. Charles Green, a W'elsh Mountain lad.
